How these notes are written

Structure

Most notes follow a similar shape: what is actually happening, what follows from that in practice, where it fails, and what to do about it.

The failure section is not optional. A description of a technology that omits where it breaks reads as more capable than it is, and readers act on that.

Products

There are almost no product recommendations here, for two reasons.

They age immediately. A recommendation made today is unreliable within a quarter in this field.

They are the thing readers can do themselves once they know how to evaluate. Teaching the evaluation is more durable than performing it.

Where products are discussed, it is by category and by the questions worth asking.

Accuracy and ageing

Specific capabilities, prices, limits and availability will be out of date. Notes say so where it matters.

Mechanisms, failure modes, evaluation methods and security principles are durable, and they are what the notes concentrate on.

Where a claim is contested, both positions are given. Where nobody knows, the note says nobody knows rather than producing a confident number.

Commercial position

No affiliate links. No sponsored content. No paid placement. No ranked product lists. No guest posts.

Scope limits

Nothing assisting unauthorised access to accounts, devices or services.

Nothing assisting the location, identification or monitoring of another person.

Nothing assisting copyright infringement.

No assessments of whether named companies are legitimate or fraudulent. Making such claims about real businesses without investigation is both unfair and a liability, and the previous site at this address did a great deal of it.
